What is the speed limit…..?
55 miles per hour. Hmmmmmm. Seems on the slow side….usually. Hence, why we LOVE the free way, which was 65 when I was a kid, now its 70 and even 80 in some states. We are always wanting to go faster. But I recently experience a new perspective….and that is a passenger to “a kid with a learners permit.”
Yup, I was the passenger to my 15 year old son FRESH outta drivers training. Suddenly at 45mph I felt like mailboxes were flying by, trees seemed to run toward the vehicle and those oncoming cars, well I was sure they were headed right for us.
When we reached 55 it seemed I could feel the wind rushing through my hair(even though the windows were rolled up). I wanted to wear a motorcycle helmet, and that idea to have Josh bubble wrapped permanently when he was 2 didn’t seem so crazy anymore. I was sure we were speeding and any moment the flashing lights would appear in the rear view window. Not because he was a horrible driver but because somewhere in my mind I think he should still be 7.
We did manage to make it home. Lol But I couldn’t help but giggle at how fast a mere 55mph just seemed. And then a big dose of reality hit me in the face…my baby is driving. So weird.
My condolences to all you parents of new drivers. See ya on the road. We will get through this together…and then send them on all our errands. Yay!!!
