Take a risk…I dare ya!
What does it take to move forward in our lives? Well, believe it or not it requires making mistakes. Crazy, huh? The first time I heard Dean Nixon talk about how making mistakes help us move forward I was both confused and relieved at the same time.
The idea that my mistakes, the very part of me I was sure was “wrong” might actually be “right”, wow, what a relief that could be.
My fear of making mistakes has held me back, and my response to beat my head into the ground when I make mistakes has weakened me. But what if I simply learned from my mistakes and moved on.
I just recently had the privilege of sending my kids through the teen seminars with TurningLeaf Seminars, (which by the way I HIGHLY recommend!!) But as I sat back and listened to my mentor and friend talk to the teens, one statement stood out to me very strongly! Dean Nixon said, “If you put too much pressure on yourself to get it right…that will keep you from taking risks.”
‘Cause the way this works is… in order to move forward we must make mistakes…but order to make mistakes we must take risk, take a risk that we might be wrong.
Naturally, I am not talkin’ about palyin’ chicken in the road, or sky diving without a parachute hoping you learn to fly on your way down. I am talking about healthy risks. Risks like applying for that job you want, following your intuition, being open with a friend, and especially the biggest risk of all…
Risk to like yourself and value you self no matter what! And if you think that last one isn’t a risk, then try it…I dare ya. Lol
Anyway, if we aren’t at least willing to take the risk to make the mistakes, then we will never have to chance to “not” make the mistakes either. We will just be stuck afraid to move. So my challenge to you today is…take a moment, think of 3 heathly risks you could take. Risk that will help you move forward in your life. If you can’t think of any…Call me!! I have a whole bag of them. Lol Or at least take the risk to look in the mirror everyday and like what you see. And again I don’t mean be proud of your cute outfit, steal of a deal on the cutest shoes ever! I mean LOOK… look into your eyes, look hard and deep and LIKE what you see. And if that is a struggle, again…call me. It is my passion to help people “like what they see.”
